If you have recently moved into a house, it can be difficult to make it feel like a home straight away. A house is simply bricks and mortar and without personality and soul it can feel like somewhere you are visiting and not where you live. Luckily it’s easy enough to make it feel like a home without too much effort and there are a few things for you to do. Keep on reading to find out some ideas and get inspired.
Give it a good deep clean
The first thing you need to do when moving into a new house and wanting to make it feel like your own, is to give it a good deep clean. Once you know you’ve sorted every inch of the space and made it sparkle, it will feel more like yours. It will feel a lot nicer to spend time in and you will feel more comfortable. The first clean should involve things like scrubbing out the cupboards, cleaning the oven and sorting your gutters. You could add gutter guards which can help keep it clean and tidy going forward too.
Add your own personal touch
There are many ways you can add your own personal touch to your home. Get some artwork on the walls that perhaps you’ve done yourself, or that you love. You should get some photos printed and hang these on the walls or in frames on your bookshelves as this will make you smile whenever you see them. You can also add items to imbue your house with a scent you love, such as a reed diffuser, scented candles or air fresheners. This makes a house instantly feel cozier and more like your home. Scent is one of the most powerful tools out there!
Host some gatherings
One major thing that makes a house feel like a home are the memories you have in it. If you have people round for dinner parties, gatherings, or just for coffee, you will soon make memories that will bring the space to life. Once you have had all these special times in your house, you will soon find it feels much more like a house than a home. Try and arrange things every few weeks, from meeting for a drink, to a movie night or a BBQ in the garden.
These are just a few things you can do that can help you make your house feel like a home. From giving it a good, deep clean so you know it’s all tidied to your standards, to adding your own artwork and pictures on the wall, it will soon feel just like your own place and somewhere you can’t wait to come home to at the end of a long day.
