The holiday season can mean different things to certain families, depending on what their experiences are usually like. Regardless of the past, your holiday season can always be improved to maximize enjoyment for all the family. This guide will give you some inspirational ideas to get you started so that you can start planning early.
Christmas Food Throughout December
Whilst it’s easy to get excited about your Christmas dinner, nothing is stopping you from enjoying Christmas food throughout December. That means making anything from French toast in the morning, to enjoying some cinnamon rolls for breakfast.
Think of the food that you and your family love during the festive period, and sprinkle a bit of it out throughout the winter days. Of course, save the best traditional stuff until Christmas day, as you don’t want to spoil it. This is also a great way to get everyone into the festive spirit ahead of time and keep everyone having fun during the holiday season.
Include All The Family
Something that may be different from the last holiday season, is that you may be able to have more family attend your festivities. The impact of COVID-19 sadly meant that travelling to see family wasn’t possible for a lot of people, but signs are looking positive for this upcoming holiday season.
That’s why it’s the best time to include all the family in any way possible. Whether it’s about gathering the family for activities at your home, or doing something virtually so that you can all save money and still hang out.
Something that you should be doing for those in your life, especially if you aren’t able to see them this year, is giving them a holiday greetings card. There’s a lot of fun that can be had with these cards if you are indeed looking for solutions that are perhaps a little bit less generic. The issue with some cards is that they can feel like they’re not from the heart.
The last thing you want to do this holiday season is to upset the family. It’s a time of coming together, so you should regularly speak to family and friends to find what’s best for everyone.
Go To A Local Holiday Display
Even out in the sticks, you will be able to find a local holiday display somewhere nearby. Whether that’s in the local mall, or in a location that is purely dedicated to the holiday season. Visiting these unique and once-a-year attractions is a great way to get into the holiday spirit, and enjoy Christmas even more.
Most of the displays come in the form of a Santa’s grotto, or a Christmas light display. Have a look around your local area ahead of time, so that you can find out when everything is rocking into town.
Enjoy Some Mulled Wine
This one may not quite be for the whole family, but adults in the family should consider enjoying a glass or two of mulled wine this holiday season. This is again something that you most likely won’t want earlier in the year but is something that just feels Christmassy. Fortunately, it’s easy to make if you know what you’re doing.
All you need is a bottle of red wine and will do, and some orange slices. Alongside that, gather some warm spices and consider adding in a dash of honey and brandy for that extra winter kick. Once mixed, just let it simmer for ten minutes at a decent temperature, and then enjoy the drink and spread it out to everyone.
Bake Christmas Cookies
Whilst it’s always a good idea to bake cookies at any point in the year, you have more freedom to use more icing and sugar when it’s Christmas time. There’s no pressure on this, so you can decide to do it all from scratch, or use the premade dough, pre-baked, or even pre-cut cookies.
The main fun part with this is decorating the Christmas cookies in a way that involves everyone so that they can put their spin on them. You can get a range of pre-made icing in a variety of colors cheap, or you can craft it yourself.
Gingerbread House Competition
One thing that all the family can enjoy, is a gingerbread house creation. They are not only fun to make, but you also get to eat your creation when you’re done with it, and gingerbread lasts a long while.
That’s why you should consider turning it into a competition. Gather a few willing participants and get an impartial judge or at least a judge who may have fun with it. Spend a short time each creating a house, judge it, and award a winner who gets to eat the loser’s house, or something fun such as that, it’s truly up to you how you want to do it.
