Is there a real lack of room in your office? It’s a common problem for small businesses. You don’t mind renting a smaller unit in your early days, as you don’t need all that much space to get on with things.
But once it’s been a few months, or a year or so, you find that you’re quickly running out and you could do with an office upgrade! However, it’s hard to find the budget for that when it creeps up on you, and it may take some time to both save up and find the perfect new commercial unit.
To fix this issue in the meantime, you need to look into cost effective ways to create more workable space within your workplace. And thankfully, we’ve got some ideas below that will work super well to that end!
Switch to a Hybrid Working Setup
If you’re concerned about productivity within remote and/or hybrid working setups, don’t be! People love to work from spaces that actually work for them, and you’re more likely to get the best out of your team when you switch to this kind of operation.
Plus, you get a lot more space in the office, as there’s less footfall inside and far fewer people taking up deskspace!
You could even hire new staff and allocate different in-office days to different people, meaning your team can share the space without ever getting on top of each other.
Tidy Away Your Cables and Equipment
Every working office in the world struggles with this in particular, and it’s usual to see cables all over the place, traipsing their way across the floor, and becoming a trip hazard in the long run.
And the same goes for any equipment you use for work; if the printer starts to become an overflow area with various stacks of paper and ink cartridges kept nearby, you’re going to lose a lot of workable space to this one bit of kit.
It’s not conducive to an effective working environment! But if you tidy away as much of this stuff as possible, you’re going to squeeze at least a few more square feet out of the place.
To start with, invest in custom metal clips to keep wires and cables securely together, attached to the perimeter and under the floor of your office. Then, invest in desk tidies, storage boxes, and make sure your supply cupboard has a proper rotation system.
Start Using Your Vertical Space
Have you ever noticed how much space there is up your walls, rather than around you? If not, it’s time to start making good use of your vertical office area for both storage and decor purposes.
Set up a lot more shelves, and hang decorations from the ceiling (plants in particular work well for this). Don’t let anything just sit in the middle of your office’s lobby getting in the way of everyone!
