Elie Saab
Elie Saab is one of my favourite designers and he certainly showed us a different side of his personality in this collection – the Lebanese designer concentrated more on daywear. First up were his skirtsuits in grey and panels of black, belted and with peplums. Then came skater skirts beneath shaggy coats. The trousers, shirts and pencil skirts all reminded us that these were very much daywear looks.
Saab’s next model illustrated the original him – trousers were teamed with ornate and elaborate tops that twisted and wrapped and unravelled around the torso so that they billowed with a tail, of sorts, behind them. There was a simple and softly-shaped coat, a short and a jacket and trousers combination. The cobweb dresses that went from burgundy to black, panels of tangles on full-length gowns or on svelte short numbers. Saab showed us a very different, more commercial collection, which I am all for. But Mr Saab, don’t you go getting casual on me now!
Then last night in Paris Saab must have heard me because the show ended with a couture collection any fashionista would appreciate and dream of having.
