el born

El Born Shopping

El Born area is a place that needs to be explored without a particular direction its narrow medieval passages can be done only on foot. The El Born area is  known for the Palau de la Musica Catalana, the Picasso Museum and the Pre-columbian art Museum.

Originally the El Born district, also known as La Ribera, is a neighborhood with a huge history in Barcelona; it was founded on X century with arabian settlements, annd later, on XII century, when Barcelona became and importat port at the Mediterranian Sea, Born grew as a busy area full of mariners, nobles, and traders. It’s tourist highlights one of many, is Santa Maria del Mar church, also known as “La Catedral del Mar” (the Sea Cathedral). The church was built during the medieval era between 1329 to 1384.  In an triumph manner it took just 55 years.

El Born has a bohemian chic atmosphere

El Born has a bohemian chic atmosphere, there are many funky restaurants, bars, cafes and terrazzas.  In addition there are quaint tea shops and delis such as E&A Gispert, who have been roasting nuts in their wood-fired oven since 1851. It’s the perfect mix for shopping, wine bars, coffee and cake gems and eating tapas.

They say the  best boutiques can be found on the Paseo del Born and calle Rec, we shall see about that? I keep hearing about  shops that have caught the attention of local fashionistas: which  include Como Agua de Mayo (which means “like water of May”), and Coquette boutique. Let’s see what all the fuss is about
