Sunglasses Trends
Sunglasses are an essential accessory regardless of the time of year, event or just looking good on the street. With bloggers and street style columns being the most visited sections of Vogue and GRAZIA, it’s never been more important to make a statement with your eyewear. Next season is going to be a revolution with brands now embracing mixed material, new techniques and different ways to update the sunglasses they produce. No longer will it just be crystals.
PRADA
Prada the Italian luxury powerhouse always produces a strong statement collection and its accessories are always impeccably manufactured and designed to complete the look. The collection for S/S15 is based on the emphasis of the 70’s trend with heavy top stitch detailing on the sunglasses.
Prada S/S15 Mixed wood and leather top stitched detail for the 70’s face off.
FENDI
Fendi the Italian powerhouse of uber cool Luxury, hits back with an extensive new collection of sunglasses only available to premier suppliers and Fendi stores. The look is a statement of graphics with cateye frames and heavy bold acetate frames. The collection is unique and guaranteed to turn heads for all the right reasons. The collection has sold well thanks to the Iridia frame being this year’s fashion editors must have.
CELINE
Celine is the goto French label favoured by Kim Kardashian and almost every other A-lister. Celine is the essential in eyewear for its graphic statement frames. Celine plays with size and angles but amongst other things, Celine evolves its collection to build on each season creating famous silhouettes and instantly recognisable pieces. The eyewear collection is predominantly female but a lot of the frames can be worn by either sex. The next collection has not been fully revealed in eyewear terms yet, but I expect heavy acetate frames. Sendoptics sells the most Celine sunglasses in the UK, more than Harvey Nicholls even. Queen of the Retro glam set.
THIERRY LASRY
Thierry Lasry is a French label designed and produced in France. It is renowned for its retro forward looks. In a short amount of time it has become the goto eyewear company for the rich and famous. With vintage acetate and key gold arms, if you want to look and feel a million dollars, this is the label you need in your life and with the retro look being a staple, this is one label to invest in.
My choice for the Hippy chic revival with it’s classic shaping no logo policy is the Isabel Marant collaboration with Oliver Peoples. This collection is a limited collection available to only selected stockists. The frames are super lightweight and feature the highest quality lenses in rose tinted hues to keep you feeling all peace and love. Ideal for those summer in boho chic and maxi dress impact. The look will be huge as are the glasses.
DIOR
Dior is the French house steeped in History of Luxury brands with the first onset of the ‘new look’ that the house was championed for revolutionizing womenswear after the war was over. Dior is famous for its sunglasses and with Raf Simons continuing to court the fashion world with his new vision for the Dior customer, the sunglasses are continuing an evolution in their own entirety. No longer staple black collection mixed material invisible detailing illusion like effects and strong links to architecture as well as the natural world. With new shows and presentations of its ready to wear causing rows at the front row, they are more spectacular than ever before. Brings to mind the adage, life in the old dog yet! Below are predictions for what will be turning heads next year from the house.
