In 2018 I headed to a Versace catwalk that displayed all the archives. Walking into the Versace boutique here in Venice. It seems the new collection is all about delving into Versace in history.
These are mine when Gianni Versace was alive in 1995. This Versace logo is Giann Versace, unlike today’s where it’s just Versace.
So why is the Versace brand so popular amongst the Italians? And how are they teaming it here in the soaring city of Venice?
Purple Trainers
I was taken by surprised how this lady teamed the Versace dress with purple trainers.
Its print clashing to the highest order. Don’t you think it really works?
Accessories
I like how her black clutch bag is small simple not taking away from the dress. Her gold eyewear works well with the dress. It seems her partner loves to colour clash with tattoos. Are these two the younger versions of Donatella and Gianni Versace.
Notice his floral trainers too. Venice is a city which requires lots of walking.
That Dress
It just looked rock chic, elegant and she walked in with confidence.
It was light and perfect for soaring hot say here in Venice. Rialto Bridge is was the most stylish bridge in the world. When in Venice make sure you street style yourself as if on the runway of Milan.
There is a lot of yellow trending here this summer too with women of all ages.
The brand is now owned by Michael Kors but the DNA is still Versace. I recently bought Versace earing and a belt from the 1995 collection.
No matter what anyone tells you. It’s the history of the brand is why in 2021 the new luxury is always clothing worn from the past.
Medusa
The Versace logo is the head of Medusa, a Greek mythological figure. The logo came from the floor of ruins in the area of Reggio Calabria that the Versace siblings played in as children. Gianni Versace chose Medusa as the logo because Medusa made people fall in love with her and they had no way back.
Here in 2021, I have seen lots of Versace. Shirts are still very well worn here and look so fabulous in Italy.
We have been conditioned and Italy was the first to lure us into brand obsession and association. So when you see people wearing Versace, what does it say about them?
Fast luxury fashion is not what it was like when Gianni was alive. The dilution of fast fashion is why now everyone can buy Versace. But how you team it together is the real stand-alone catwalk message.
Why Wear Versace Now?
Versace became internationally renowned for ultra-glamorous creations as well as spectacular theatrical costumes and innovative menswear design. Versace’s style combined luxurious classicism with overt sexuality. Today it is the 53rd top brand to wear. I like the vintage Verace items as they represent Versace himself.
