Driving luxury cars I am always thinking about which watch would match the car brand. This coming festive season is all about what to buy in the world of luxury watches. I also ponder how many women still wear luxury watches? If so what does a watch illustrate regarding the woman and her wrist?

Everything 1990’s is making a huge comeback. Hermes seems to be adopting the same trends. Launching this November is the Hermès Cape Cod Chaîne d’ancre. I personally presume it looks more enticing on ones wrist?

Chaîne d’ancre

The designer Henri d’Origny was to make a square watch out of it. His untamed pencil decided otherwise: the Cape Cod, «a square in a rectangle», was born in 1991. At once original, graphic, impertinent and rigorously disciplined, it challenges existing aesthetic codes.

The Cape Cod likes to play with the «Anchor Chain», of which the two half links form its case. This motif, created by Robert Dumas in 1938, is now highlighted by Hermès’ leather craftsmanship. The second loop of the strap is shaped to reveal the anchor chain link pattern in the leather.

For Hermès, time is also an object. Its inherent tension is translated by the house into a singular characteristic. Rather than measuring, ordering, and seeking to control it, Hermès dares to explore another time, designed to arouse emotions, open up interludes and create spaces for spontaneity and recreation.

To achieve this effect, the artisan assembles four different layers of leather, before meticulously cutting them and stitching them with a tool specially adjusted to follow the curves of the bracelet. This double tour strap, originally designed by Martin Margiela in 1998, is available in four colours: Barenia black, deep blue, amber and extreme pink. Its vivid shades accentuate the emblematic shape of the steel case and the silver dial with powdered numerals, crafted in Hermès Horloger’s own workshops.

STRAP

The variety of the strap colours are interesting. The Swift deep blue calf or the Swift amber calf are versatile. But I like the Swift extreme pink alot more inviting. But for some the safe Black Barenia is a nice option too.

The watch comes adorned with the iconic double tour strap now also bearing the anchor chain motif which was the original inspiration for the watch when Henri d’Origny first designed it in 1991. Depending on your colour type one has an endless amount of choice.
