It’s 2020 and Sophia Loren is hiding in Geneva during the lockdown. Only realising now that her beauty was not on her mind during her youth.
Sophia has been gracing the silver screen for upwards of five decades with her voluptuous figure, toothy grin, flawless Italian skin, and mesmerizing eyes. This Neapolitan fashionista defies all fashion odds when it comes to beauty maintenance. Sophia embraced her distinct looks by refusing to lose weight, get a nose job, or alter her appearance in any way for a role. In doing so, she became the fearless and devastatingly glamorous beauty icon we know her as today.
She is 86years old. Her son took this image of her before lockdown.
In 2020 today in her own words from Geneva
Her confidence is founded on ability rather than looks. ‘I never looked at myself in the mirror and thought, “You are so beautiful.”’ Really? ‘No, I was never happy about how I looked.’ And now? ‘Now, I like myself when I look in the mirror. I don’t think bad things at all, only good. But it’s about what you do with your life, isn’t it?’ she stresses.
Although she sounds upbeat on the phone, it’s clear that the past few months have not been easy for Loren, who has homes in Rome and Naples but has primarily been based in Geneva ever since she and her late husband, the film producer Carlo Ponti, had their two boys. Edoardo, now 47, is an LA-based film director and writer; his brother, Carlo Jr, 51, is an orchestral conductor working in the US.

What I love about her approach to fashion was that she embraced her exaggerated features with fashion gusto. Her cat eyes made her an iconic bombshell and one whose ‘look’ is constantly copied. Her hairstyles are a pure example of femininity and the way she dressed was flamboyant, resulting in her being a voluptuous sex goddess.
Her clothing was always very fitting and exaggerated her curvaceous figure. She was the perfect 1960’s inspiration to aspire to and follow. In a world consumed with cosmetic surgery, Sophia Loren reminds us of how striking a naturally unconventional look can be. By embracing her stunning looks and tirelessly pursuing her dream, she is the perfect example of a true Bella Donna.
Iconic due to her strong bone structure was how she would use scarves and turban as a luxury accessory.
Brilliant now for stay home wear.
