This increasing interest in historic properties also chimes with a general trend for feel-good rooms featuring intricate and elaborate interior design, and filled with colour, pattern and detail. This can also transcend into a very colourful coat wearing the trend.
The weather in Italy does not allow for a beige look. At fifty-one needs to wear more colour and patterns overcoats. Just like your home.
“You need to have warmth. You need to go home and be able to sit in a cosy room with a bit of clutter around you to feel cosy and safe. That minimalist approach just doesn’t work, because if one thing is out of place, the whole look can fall apart. Here in Italy the street-style ladies over fifty embrace colour naturally.
Way back in 2011, I wrote about Iris Apfel who is now 100 years old. She has teamed up with H&M to create a very outlandish collection. You are never too old to embrace colour. She is the guru of wearing outrageously fun colourful coats.
The lady below is over sixty here in Lucca Italy. She always is wearing coats with plenty of colour and patterns. Make sure you understand your patterns.
Home & Fashion Go Hand In Hand
The way I think about my home is that it’s very much a world of escapism for me. “I still watch those dramas for escapism, and when I’m at home I want to be in a space that is very much my aesthetic, as if I’m almost escaping to the world I want to live in.”
People know how to live here: for centuries, they have understood the importance of an element of comfort, cosiness and a welcoming feel.
This is also how I feel about fashion. mixing my home vibe onto the high streets of where ever I venture to. I often display my handcrafted knitwear and bags made in Italy within my home and when i go shopping.
How To Wear A Colourful Coat?
Choose a colour from your coat pattern. And match it with a stripe in a roll-neck or jumper. Like these coats, mismatched patterns can look extremely chic.
Crotchet Trousers With Colour
Team it with a plain wool high neck jumper. So you make one part of the outfit stand out. The above is way too over the top. Which I am not afraid to wear. I always ski in vintage fur. And opt on this occasion for a rabbit coat.
Wearing Pattern Is Fun
Make sure your scale and shape are in harmony with your body and shape. Avoid choosing a boldly printed item. Tone down the chintz and let the statement pattern do the talking instead.
Can’t Go Wrong With All Red
With so much war going on such as Ukraine, Russia and Omicron. one has to choose colours that will lift the mood. Our mental health and anxiety can be balanced by what we wear when going out. This lady is head to toe in all red. What I suggest is removing the red coat and opting as the blonde lady did. A grey pattern cape instead.
I do like the all in the red ensemble. With these two examples, one can maximise their wardrobe. Knitwear clashing is always so much fun.
Spring Block Colours
Spring is a fab time to wear so many colours. I am currently also wearing everything mustard with my red copper hair.
It is a colour that goes with many other block colours such as green. Victoria Beckham is the master of block colours. This Spring’s also about pink trench coats. I am experimenting so I am wearing a tad too many colours. But colour patterns is all about finding the balance.
I found this Ted Baker pink wool coat in a second-hand vintage shop. When I am riding around due to gas and fuel inflation. I make sure my bike has that earthy appeal to it.Fabulous to balance the pattern outfits i am wearing.
