If you sum me up in a nutshell this saying is it. What you don’t know can become your greatest asset. I’m going to do it anyway even though I haven’t been taught.
I am at a place where I am trying new things every day and most of the time I feel I am FAILING. This word is one that has been taught to me from the moment I understood languages. It’s the word I have feared the most throughout my childhood and in my twenties. It’s the word that most of my educators always said to me. YOU FAILED YET AGAIN GRACIE.
I Wasn’t As Intimidated As I Should Have Been
So when I started MenStyleFashion I made a choice I am going to fail every single day. I am going to fail in trying new things. I am going to fail when I interview celebrities. I am going to fail in my writing, both in grammar and explaining my point of view. I am going to fail when I am trying to spell the word Conde Nast. I am going to fail when I am speaking to the elitist of bespoke tailoring and fail to understand what they are explaining to me.
But unbeknownst to me what I didn’t know has become my greatest asset. And that big fat word I have grown to FEAR FAILURE is why I am making a unique impact within the Fashion Industry.
Did you know that MenStyleFashion Facebook Likes has overtaken the top Male Magazines GQ UK. Not bad considering we are not even two years old.
Fear Of Rejection
Most of us fear to try new things on the basis of FAILURE. In fact it’s that fear of rejection and what everyone else around you are thinking or going to react is what stops us. That’s what I adore about the Fashion Industry as we are taught to look, behave and act in a certain way. But yet again unbeknownst to me what I didn’t know has become my greatest asset. I have been told by the top fashion organisation and top elitist to tone down my behaviour both in the way I self promote my brand and act at fashion events. What I have been told is to CONFORM. My gosh Gracie we want to collaborate with you. But you simply have to apply by the rules.
The reality is MenStyleFashion has grown with your SUPPORT and by not conforming. Fear of Failure is to be there to learn and try many ways of simply not working as expected. What you don’t know can become your greatest asset. I’m going to do it anyway even though I haven’t been taught.
Keep supporting and watching, and brace yourself because it’s going to get pretty.
